Fisher Letter
There is at least one Fisher House™ at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment at no charge. Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time – during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. As a nonprofit, they exceed the standard of donations vs. expenses. Per Charity Navigator, they have received a Four-Star Charity rating. As a Four-Star charity, more than 92% of all donations go directly to support veterans’ families and their stay at the Greater LA Fisher House in West Los Angeles.
Adopt a Family Fundraiser

All were invited to demonstrate our gratitude to those courageous men and women who stood in the front of the line when disaster occured.

Rancho San Antonio Scholarship Check Presentation December 12, 2020
The Knights of Columbus – Marina Council 4834 are proud to present a scholarship check on behalf of our beloved †Brother John Arias.
Brothers,
It has been over one year since we entered into a pandemic, which no one either knew was coming or how to proceed. In the mist of the epidemic the world stood still. There were so many people in distress and yet no one knew what to do.
I take this moment to say how VERY proud I am to call you my Brothers. When so many were numb, speechless and immoveable; justifiably so, WE stood tall and took action to help those in need.
In March 2020, WE immediately mobilized to help our community by picking up groceries and medications; for those who could not, due to their circumstances.
In July 2020, WE heard and responded to the children of our farmworkers in Fresno who were cold due to the lack of coats. We answered with our Coats for Kids campaign and partnered with East Los Angeles Rising, and collected a combination of OVER TWO THOUSAND, clothing, toys, sheets, and blankets.
After making the above donation we discovered the desperate cry for the need of essential food items for our Fresno Farmworkers. It became clear, the Knights had to help. Once we knew people were hungry, WE HAD to get involved and not wait for others to help. This last Saturday, the Knights accomplished one of our most successful endeavors, the FILL THE PANTRY campaign. We and our partner, Downtown Fresno Grocery Outlet distributed food to OVER FIVE HUNDRED Farmworkers and their families.
Many say it was a difficult year, and nothing could be done. My Brothers, this was not us. Despite our personal concerns, we were committed to make “Positive Foot Prints“. People know us, the Knights of Columbus, as men of the church who can be counted on during difficult times. For this and all you do, In Service to One and Service to Others, YOU MAKE ME PROUD, to stand with you during these challenging times.

Coats for Kids
Several months ago, we began our campaign Coats for Kids, with the proceeds benefiting the children of farmworkers in Fresno, CA. As the campaign went on, we discovered the need was greater than just coats. The wonderful parishioners and school families at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Venice, CA got us started and our wonderful sponsors and supporters helped us complete our campaign. At the end, we had collected OVER TWO THOUSAND pieces of coats, clothing, toys, sheets, blankets and over $600 in cash donations.
As we got ready for our trip, our longtime sponsor FELDMAN LAW GROUP donated much needed bags to gather the clothing to give away. Our new sponsor, AMERICAN NATIONAL TOUR INC. provided the bus that would transport us to Fresno. (On a side note, after explaining our campaign to our new sponsor /Artin Daviton -owner, he not only immediately said he would donate the bus, but wanted to make sure he went with us to be a part of this event.)
Father Albert Vasquez, our chaplain worked with us tirelessly. He was disappointed he could not join us on the trip as he was under quarantine. He did call us on the bus to give us his benediction for a safe trip.
Before arriving in Fresno, we coordinated with Ms. Yolanda Torres who was instrumental in gathering the almost one hundred families who would be served. She not only provided volunteers but had several families provide us, fresh picked peaches, fresh baked pastries, lentil soup, freshly made cheese, rice soup, fresh Mexican coleslaw tostadas, fresh peach juice, water and sodas.
The Knights of Columbus and volunteer who partook in the hospitality of the farmworkers were our Financial Secretary – Steve Gunn, Deputy Grand Knight – Randy Bermudez, Outside Guard – Jose Gonzales, Linda Arias (sister to Grand Knight), and the Grand Knight – George Arias.
The day was exciting in meeting so many great individuals; hard working to be outdoors in 106 degrees; humbling to see people who do not have much, come by all day bringing us food and drinks to thank us for coming out.
It is one of my proudest moments as the Grand Knight, for Marina Council – 4834, Knights of Columbus. I truly felt we received much more than what we provided.

Long Beach - Plane Pull
Last Saturday, KOC participated in the annual Plane Pull at Long Beach Airport to benefit Special Olympics. There were 75 teams of 25 athletes. The Knights of Columbus were represented by 3 different teams with athletes from all over the state who participated in the event. Kids also got into the act pulling a more appropriately sized plane which proved equally challenging for them as that 737 was for the adults. That day KOC helped raise over $230,000!
